2013 RAMBLINGS

February 16th, 2013

Greetings everyone! Sorry for the lack of updates but between work and other things going on in life, I haven't had much time to get this place back up on a regular schedule. What time I have had, I've been spending it on behind-the-scene projects such as a spanking new link some of you eagle-eye visitors may have noticed.
As strange as it is to believe, Tony never had an official page where all of his Generic Funkin Cartoons artwork and scripts were featured. The closest was a site hosted in GeoCities back in 2006 that unfortunately was closed when GeoCities went the way of the dinosaurs. Ever since then all of his GFC material has been spread across cyberspace in various websites such as the Virtual Underground, MySpace, the Gamespot forums, and Plightsite. So for the past couple of months I've been asking his internet friends as well as doing some digging myself using the Wayback Machine, search engines, and old CDs to compile a gallery where everything possibly related to GFC can be in one place.
Now I know what you're saying: why not just create a completely separate website? Believe me, I was very tempted to do that. But since all of his other artwork is in here as well as his "Adventures of Chronos and Blackley", it just made more sense to fold GFC into the website so everything Tony worked on in the last decade or so was together. After all, that's the whole point of me doing this project in the first place.
Naturally I'm not even remotely close to being finished. There's still tons of material out there and I'll continue adding to the collection as soon as I find them. But I urge all of you to check in regularly to see my progress.
Next time I promise I'll have some Plight related stuff. So until then! - Jake

I'm not sure what is relaxing me more: sitting here at my favorite Caribou Coffee with my laptop sipping on my Turtle Mocca or gazing out the large display window to the sight of Lake Minnetonka finally beginning to thaw after such a long winter. Believe me I was tired of the snow by mid November so the realization Spring has arrived makes me feel Minnesota's frozen nightmare is over. The fact the sun is also out today helps confirm the fact. But you didn't come in here for a weather report; you came for some new artwork. And artwork you shall have that was inspired by my mischievous nephew.
Like most kids I assume, he’s a big fan of Legos and collects all the different types of sets: Bionicles, Ninjago, Star Wars, Super Heroes… the kid has Rubbermaids full of the little plastic bricks. So when he asked what a “Lego Plight” might look like, he and I collaborated on a nifty little picture. But I thought the idea was so fun that I decided to do a second one. The result is some self-indulging geekery that's left me curious if those figures could seriously be crafted. I’ll have to look into it but in the meantime click on the link and see what we‘re talking about.
Now even though the summer movie season is almost upon us, I’ve decided as soon as I finish the entries still waiting to be done last year, I’m going to leave it at that for the time being. The Summer Blockbuster Gallery was a joint venture between Tony and I myself and while I’ll be continuing with the other aspects of this site (did someone say comic pages?), no one can deny twelve years is a mighty impressive accomplishment for something that wasn’t expected to last past 5 illustrations. Oh I’m sure the occasional movie homage will still pop up now and then, which I’ll file under the “Deleted Scenes” category. But doing the gallery another year without Tony‘s guidance and support doesn‘t appeal to me.
Fortunately there’s still five entries left to go which I’ll be posting the first one next time. And as luck would have it, that entry and the final PSBG picture make some pretty nice bookends which will end this gallery in fine style. What do I mean by that? Well, you’ll just have see when we debut the long awaited homage to “The Amazing Spider-Man”. So until then! - Jake
