"Yin and Yang" ("Rush Hour 2")
After many frustrating attempts to homage Jackie Chan, I decided to take a new route which had nothing to do with the famous Hong Kong actor, but a great amount involving something Tony and I have a special affection for.
When I started hanging out with my friend back in 1995, the two of us collaborated on a really, really, really cheaply-done comic called "Yin Versus Plight" (we tried revising it years later; the most drastic decision was Tony giving Yin a different and more appealing design). Using the kind of ball-point pens you buy ten in a package and drawn on loose-leaf notebook paper, the project had one of us pencil a page while the other inked it, and vice versa. There was no script. We didn't even have a general story structure. Just an impromptu collaboration where the goal was to challenge the other while creating the next greatest thing to revolutionize the graphic novel since Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" and Alan Moore's "Watchmen". Our masterpiece lasted fourteen pages until common sense finally hit us squarely on the head and we decided to move on to other things. But boy, did we get far into the story! It was a funny embarrassment, but an embarrassment nevertheless (which you can check out here).
This entry is based on that early grandiose epic complete with Yin's original design and Tony's mistaken way of how to write 'Yin' in Japanese. And while the picture might not be the best representation of "Rush Hour 2", the two properties do share thematic ties. But more importantly, this stirs up great memories for us. - Jake
