Pencil Marks: I pulled a Tony on Tony and handed him two separate illustrations with no background; simply telling him to run wild on it. My compadre talks more about it in his rambling below, but I always planned on Erik and Kari with Super Soakers instead of actual guns from the get-go. It's not just because I stink at drawing realistic firearms (that's a big part of it) but we had several illustrations by now with the characters using guns to take down helicopters, fighting dragons alongside Matthew McConaughey, hanging out at the beach... it has been done before and it will be done again. So why not break up the combo? Also, I like the idea most heroes in comics don't use guns; they try other methods. And besides, who wouldn't want to see Angelina Jolie get involved in a bad ass water fight? The overall result was a picture which became my computer's wallpaper for a few months (something I rarely do). That's how much I like it.
I feel sorry for Frump though. It's uncool having such mean neighbors constantly pranking him. - Jake
Ink Smudges: When Jake told me his idea for the Wanted picture, he was describing an all out gun fight, Matrix style that would fit into the overall world of the film "Wanted" since its essentially about assassins skilled with firearms. But what he handed me was completely different from what I had pictured. Instead he had his heroes in matrix-like outfits, but holding squirt-guns. Not only that but like I've done to him a few times in the past he had Erik on one sheet, Kari on another, no backgrounds and those famous instructions: "Do what you can".
As I sat down to ink these pictures an image flashed through my mind, and I just had to do it. And what you see above is pretty much what I had thought of. Frankly I think this picture turned out much better than both Jake and I had anticipated. - Tony
