"A Day Like Another" ("Marvel's The Avengers")
It was the first blockbuster movie of the summer and one the most anticipated. It was the culmination of six superhero films over the span of five years, was based on several Marvel Comics properties, directed by Joss Whedon before he destroyed his career years later with reports of sexual misconduct, and had become my favorite movie franchise of all time. So right from the beginning I either had to do my homage to "The Avengers" right or not do one at all.
And hot damn, do I love how this came out!
Of course I knew it had to be an ensemble piece but what I wasn't planning on was how serendipity the final product became. Not only are several well known property such as Star Trek, Star Wars, and Tomb Raider being represented but each one of the characters has specifically appeared dressed up as those properties before in previous PSBG entries. And if you want to go even deeper, none of those previous PSBG entries were posted on the same year. Sure it's silly but when you factor in how Marvel laid out their series of movies with their characters, the whole thing feels very appropriate.
My only regret is I should have asked Tony and some of our talented guest artists to go in on making this a jam piece. Not only would it have given it an even more appropriate feel but can you imagine the many levels of awesomeness that would have been? Unfortunately the idea came to me too late and by that time I was almost finished and the movie was about to be released. Oh well. I still like how this came out. - Jake
