"Homage" ("Star Wars - Episode 2: Attack of the Clones")
When Tony and I decided to attend the Star Wars Celebration II in Indianapolis, one of the ideas we had was putting together a newsletter promoting our website at the time, Crimsonpug.com. The newsletter/advertisement was our first attempt at trying our hand at one and both of us wanted every aspect of the website to be represented. The only rule was everything had to be brand new material. No reprinted articles or pieces.
Naturally, I was given free reign how Plight would be featured, but considering the newsletter was being passed out at a Star Wars convention, I wanted to keep it in theme. So, I chose to homage the poster of the next Star Wars installment about to come out, "Attack of the Clones".
Little did I know how appropriate my decision would be. For years, the only people I met who knew exactly what I was homaging were Star Wars fans. To the casual person, the piece was just a typical pin-up. Even when I explained the behind-the-scenes story, folks still shrugged their shoulders. A few admitted it was probably because they couldn't recall what the poster for "Attack of the Clones" by Drew Stuzan looked like in the first place. Either way, I took their critique as a compliment. This was drawn for a specific audience and thankfully it was the audience who got it. - Jake
