"All The King's Men"
Halloween 2004
Jake has been telling me for years to find my own style and stop mooching off of his. All this time, it seems that my style has finally come to light. It's been emerging through the years, coming forward in a number of recent Summer Blockbuster pin-ups, and now has come the time that I can finally come to terms with it. Yes I draw cartoons.
Now Jake isn't the most "realistic" artist either, and I know he'll agree with me on that one, but by far my style is much more toonie than his. And I like that just fine. It allows all of my drawings a character that is different from Jake's. And that's one of the points of the whole thing. Sure I may still do a ton of pics in the "jake style", but I feel more natural with the exagerated, some-what deformed look that has become my art.
With this here piece of art I was literally inspired by a picture of a puppy dog Jake drew for my kid, Kaitlin. The drawing was simple, had nothing at all to do with Humpty Dumpty, and it was colored in crayon (something my co-hort will never fess up to doing). Yet as I saw that little cute puppy I got this image of Erik dressed up in an Egg costume sitting on a wall. And that is exactly what came about.
What makes it even more priceless is the fact that I penciled and inked this lovely drawing while sitting next to Jake, who was having a very tough time thinking of anything to draw. Classic moment in time, trust me. - Tony
You know, I just don't have the heart to tell him it was a picture of a kitty - and that it was done in markers. - Jake
